People You Know @ The Silver Dollar
People You Know or PYK as they are often called are gaining a real following in the Toronto music scene. The band's music is a mix of hard rock and alternative and their lyrics are poignant and oftentimes funny. The songs reflect life growing up in Toronto as musicians. Aimee Bessada rocks lead guitar and vocals, Devon Clarke slaps the bass, and S@Y Radio's own Iman Kassam keeps the band in rhythm on the drums.
On November 22nd the band played a show at The Silver Dollar on Spadina. The band played a mix covers and original music, including their hugely popular, upbeat jam "See and Be Scene". As usual the show was vaudevillian in nature, with music, comedy, and plenty of audience interaction. The atmosphere somehow remained relaxed despite the oh-so-rock n' roll-ear-splitting volumes and up-tempo beats. Between songs as the band made sure they were on the same page they were more than willing to joke with the crowd about the show as a spectacle. Even the most introverted members of the audience couldn't help but find themselves swaying, stomping, and clapping along during the songs and laughing out loud at the band's great sense of humour. PYK definitely has a great stage presence and make for a formidable live show - definitely worth having a go the next time they are in town.
S@Y Rating: 5/5
