Indie News
Here at S@Y Radio, we're a big part of Seneca@York, and we also share very close quarters with the Independant Music Production class. A lot of the students from that course share studios with us from the Radio Broadcasting program and, I personally have gotten to know a few of them.
Seneca College is all about hard work, and with music production there's no shortage of that.
For Indie News, I want to showcase one of the most beautiful and talented women I have met. She has shown immense passion for music, and has the looks and talent to take over the world.
Emily Sauro
Canadian Jazz/Pop Singer-Songwriter.
Emily first started performing and singing when she was 7 years old. Under her mother’s tutelage, she began learning her craft by performing with a group of her mother’s students doing various musical numbers at recitals and concerts. She also received singing and piano lessons from her mother to develop her skills. Her musical training allowed her to sing a number of music styles that included opera, musical theatre and pop songs. Emily recorded her first CD at the age of 10. Klassic Kid was produced at a recording studio, giving her valuable experience observing the recording process.
In 2001, she was a winner in vocal finals at the Kiwanis Music Festival. Also, at the age of ten, she sang at Hamilton Place with Boris Brott and the National Academy Orchestra in front of 15,000 people.
She spent the next several years performing live at coffeehouses around the city of Toronto such as Renaissance Café and the Urban Café. This has given her valuable experience communicating with an audience. Also at this time, she started experimenting with writing her own songs and developing her own style.
When she was 15, her mother, who had been her teacher, passed away and she had to begin taking her career into her own hands. Over the last 5 years, she has worked with various artists and different genres from pop music to metal. She has taught herself to play guitar and worked on her piano skills. However, the key skill that has grown over the years is her vocal technique. She has developed a mature and sophisticated style that audiences connect with. As Emily has focused her talents on developing her own signing style, she has developed a strong sense as to what kind of music best suits her voice and has practiced by recording numerous covers of various kinds of music including jazz standards, musical theatre, opera, selected pop and rock songs and several original compositions.
She has taught herself how to use the Sound Forge recording program. She has also practiced producing music videos to go with her recordings. She has used that knowledge to make the numerous YouTube videos of her singing covers and original songs, which have been well-received by the online community. In 2011, she worked with electronic music producers on some electro music. She performed these songs at various venues in downtown Toronto. Since then she has moved away from that scene to write more down-to-earth music and she wants to incorporate more jazz and rock/metal influence in her music.
Music is Emily’s passion. It is her goal to have a career in the music industry, to meet and work with fellow professionals and develop more opportunities to write and perform as well as well develop her technical production skills.
